We headed out from excellent farmhouse accommodation at Newsham just south of the A66 for our overnight stop in Thirsk..
Our first lane had a pretty ford and then we climbed into the hills. When we arrived at the next UCR it had a motor vehicles prohibited sign which was disappointing as we had checked the legality of the route before leaving home.
To get round to the next part of our planned route meant quite a bit of road work but we chose some nice quiet roads with excellent views – at least they would have been quiet if it hadn’t been for the sheer number of tractors with trailers bringing in the hay harvest.
Our next section was above Pateley Bridge and we should have driven it in the opposite direction, but actually we probably got better views on the descent to Scar House Reservoir going this way round. After another long UCR over the moors we called in to Masham for some excellent fish and chips and a pint of Theakstons for the passengers before heading on to Thirsk.
