Christmas Laning in the Lake District - Day 1

Tuesday 29th December 2015

This year, Sue and I decided that our Christmas present to each other would be a laning trip to the Lake District. We had seen a company at the Peterborough Land Rover Show and decided to book one of their organised tours so we didn't have to do any planning ourselves for a change.

Our friends, Mark and Heather also expressed an interest in joining us so the four of us set off to Kendal to our hotel the night before joining the groups. With all the rain and flooding in the region throughout December we didn't really know what to expect but wanted to go and support the local businesses in the area rather than stay away.

Day one saw us head for the high ground in the south west of the area and the weather was relatively kind. A bit of a slow start meant that we didn't get to do all of our alloted route but we still had great views over Coniston Water and through Grizedale to finish near Langdale.
